DIY: Valentine’s Day Paper Wreath

A long time ago, I thought it might be fun to scrapbook. I bought tons of paper, stamps, stickers, books, acid free, archival quality products. Obviously, it was before digital scrapbooking. Now I look around my craft space and see all the things I’ve acquired over the years and wonder how to use them up. I don’t want them taking space on my shelves or in my closet. I saw this wreath on Pinterest the other day and thought I would give it a try. It is an easy way to use up some paper and make something functional and pretty.  It was really easy once I figured out that it needed to be sewn together. I tried using double stick tape, but the top banners kept falling over. Not good. Here are my simplified step-by-step instructions. Enjoy! I would love to see what you create. Leave a comment or photo.

Items Needed:
Scrapbook paper cut into 1″ strips
1 brass ring (any size)
Ribbon with hang
Sewing machine with zipper foot
Baker’s twine for hanging banner

Step 1:

Cut your paper into 1 inch X 6 inch strips.
Step 2:
Fold paper in half and cut to create the bottom points

Step 3:

With your zipper foot on your machine, wrap your paper around your ring and sew in place. Be sure to line up the ends and hold tightly so it doesn’t shift during sewing.
Step 4:
Add next paper and sew continuously. I like to end with my needle down to hold everything in place.
 Continue adding banners until complete.
Voila! You are done. I added a little hanging banner with LOVE on it using my Cricut Cuttin’ Up Alphabet cartridge. A fun bow to hang and you have a fast easy project that helps use up those extra paper scraps lying around.
The great thing about this project is you can create one for each season or event. You can make them big or small – it was a quick project that I ended up loving. I’d love to see what you create. Come back and share!
