Art Gallery Fabric Striped Tour

Hello Friends!

This post contains affiliate links

This is my first time doing a fabric tour and it’s with Art Gallery Fabric! Eeek! Have you had a chance to sew with this fabric? It’s so dream, it’s soft and cuddly. There are so many colors and stripes to choose from. It will be hard to decide which one to try first. I am excited I got to team up with some very talented sewing friends (go check them all out, link below).

I originally wanted to make Pajama’s for my littles, but after sewing one pair, I changed my mind. This is also my first time sewing on a knit fabric. Let me tell you, I made a lot of mistakes. Ugh! I used the seam ripper way to many times, but thanks to one of the contributors, Heather, I was able to finish and my daughter loves her pj’s. I would recommend reading her tips if you are new to sewing with knit fabric.

One thing I realized, you need to have the proper tools.  Here are my top three products that you must have:

  1. Jersey/Ball Point Sewing Needles – when you use a regular needle it can create holes in the fabric and weaken the threads. Using a ball point needle, which has a blunt end, keeps your fabric together.
  2. Twin Stretch Needle: This has two needles on one shaft. I like using this needle because it really gives a professional finish to your project.
  3. Hem Tape: After reading Heather’s tips on Hem Tape, I thought I would give it a try. It’s fairly easy to work with and did make hemming the knit so much easier.

I love how these darling shirts ended up. My girls love them and wanted to sleep in them last night. Umm, no. You have to save them and wear them where people can see how cute they are! Am I right? I used this pattern from See Kate Sew for this top.

I did finish a pair of pajamas and I do love how they turned out. My daughter loved jumping on my bed while taking photos. I think she needs a knit hat to go with the pajamas, what do you think? I used Simplicity Pattern 8520 it was an easy pattern to follow and sew, it also had options for a hood and feet.

Be sure to head over to the other bloggers this week to see all the fun projects that they made with this beautiful Art Gallery Knit Striped Fabric. I loved working with this fabric even though I made mistakes, I love how everything turned out. I learned a ton about knits and now I feel more confident to work with this fabric again.

Definitely need a hat made to match! I love your shirts and pj’s and so excited I got you sewing with knits! I love sewing with knits and the double needle has been one of my most loved tools to sew with them. I’ve not tried hem tape before, but think I should!
Thank you so much for being on tour with me!!

It worked really well for me! Knits were tricky, but I think I figured it out. Thanks for including me in this fun fabric tour!

They all turned out so cute. I especially like the jammies. You can’t go wrong with a good pair of JimJams!
